Radisson Hotel Group announces the expansion of its presence in the UK with the signing of Radisson RED Huddersfield. Located in the town centre and adjacent to the train station, Radisson RED Huddersfield is set to open in winter 2024/25 following an extensive restoration and refurbishment of the historic property The George Hotel, originally built in 1851.
Famous for being the birthplace of Rugby League back in 1895, The George Hotel attracted guests from across the world to stay in the iconic landmark.
A full refurbishment will take place across all spaces of the property to restore and enhance the building’s grandeur, while incorporating the unique and distinctive bold design of the Radisson RED brand. It follows the recent opening of Radisson RED Liverpool, also housed within an impressive 19th century property neighboring a train station. In Liverpool’s case, the hotel was originally the North Western Hotel situated next to Lime Street railway station.
Radisson RED Huddersfield, situated in a Grade II* Listed building, will accommodate 91 spacious rooms, including 4 junior suites, which will feature Radisson RED’s signature cutting-edge design as well as references to the history, culture, and the people of Huddersfield, paying homage to the town. There will be meeting and events spaces, suitable for business gatherings, conferences, and celebrations, including the room where it is believed the Rugby League treaty was signed, with a total meetings and events size of more than 3,000 sq ft. A fully equipped fitness room will also be available for guests to use. An onsite restaurant and bar where guests and locals can enjoy delicious locally sourced dishes and beers will be located on the ground floor together with a lobby lounge.
