Design Hotels Launches a New Study on Neuroaesthetics

Diving deep into the impacts of a growing trend first explored in its Further Forecast 2024, Design Hotels announces the launch of Neuroaesthetics—Design for the Mind.

A new cultural study on neuroaesthetics, uncovering how aesthetics, culture, and technology impact our brains, bodies, and behaviors. Researched and developed by neuroaesthetics studio Kinda Studios and created in partnership with FSB Franz Schneider Brakel, the study collates insights across science, technology, and the arts, and features interviews with renowned voices including artist Refik Anadol, neuroaesthetics architect and designer Suchi Reddy, and neuroscientist Anjan Chatterjee.

Unpacking the latest research and science in the emergent field of neuroaesthetics, Design Hotels’ new report Neuroaesthetics—Design for the Mind explores the measurable impacts that aesthetic experiences have on our brains and bodies. When intelligently applied to design, architecture, and cultural programming, neuroaesthetics offers unlimited possibilities to transform human behavior and foster a better sense of community, belonging, transformation, and longevity—benefitting society as a whole long term.

With these potential futures in mind, Design Hotels partnered with Kinda Studios and FSB Franz Schneider Brakel to create an in-depth cultural study exploring the relevance of neuroaesthetics today. Officially launched at an event held during Milan Design Week, the 69-page report offers four pillars to shape design decisions, 56 case studies that explore its practical applications, and an accessible tool kit for architects, hoteliers, designers, and more to adapt its core principles.

About Kinda Studios
Kinda Studios is the first women-led neuroaesthetics studio applying neuroscience research into creative projects to enhance the impact of arts, culture and technology on wellbeing and connection.

Their studio transforms scientific insights into strategies, experiences and curation, while their lab uses mobile brain-body technology to test, iterate, amplify and validate these in real-world environments. As a bridge between academic labs and the creative sector, Kinda’s dynamic approach turns neuroscience into more meaningful ideas and innovations, working with interdisciplinary partners at the forefront of science, technology and the creative arts.

About FSB Franz Schneider Brakel
For over 100 years, FSB has been producing door and window handles exclusively made in Germany. In Brakel, East Westphalia, FSB makes partly handcrafted, end-to-end products in a variety of materials and surfaces for all areas of application. Committed to the tradition of redesign, FSB has adapted modern classics by Gropius, Wagenfeld and Mies van der Rohe to today's parameters and supplies numerous designs by renowned contemporary architects. FSB wholeheartedly commits to sustainability by embracing innovation, as most recently demonstrated by its resource-conscious finish Aluminum Pure.

As handles are often the first interaction someone has with a building, they are a critical component of first impressions both in optic and haptic, heightening the company’s awareness of the need to design them for emotion.
