Cardiff Council have approved the plans, proposed by the Welsh Rugby Union, to convert what was a post office into a new high-end, luxury hotel.
Headed up by Celtic Collection, the new Westgate Hotel which has been proposed is a join venture between the Welsh Rugby Union and Rightacres – the property developers.
The new Hotel will be located close to the Prinicipality Stadium and will boast a total of 175 rooms, also featuring ‘one of the largest function rooms’ in the city, housing up to 350 guests at any one time.
The Hotel will also be equipped with a bar, a 120-cover restaurant, a spa and a swimming pool.
The funding has come from Legal & General, and permission has been granted to build a seven-storey extension.
The launch date is set to be December of next year, 2020.
