Reinventing and Revitalising the Hof

In the heart of Düsseldorf’s vibrant downtown district, right on the Koenigsallee, the grandest boulevard of the city, Peter Silling of Peter Silling & Associates, creates a new and sophisticated look for a legendary hotel in Germany, The Breidenbacher Hof, a Capella Hotel.

The Breidenbacher Hof has a long history. It originally opened in 1812 and has since undergone many changes and reconstructions. Five years ago, its owners decided to re-build the whole complex and turn it back to a luxury environment for multi use, including a 5 star luxury hotel, residential and high-end retail shops. Peter Silling & Associates were appointed to be the Designer for the whole new complex.
Inspiration was taken from the hotel’s history, added to the vibe of Germany’s top fashion Metropole, which combines to create a unique luxury hotel, respecting the original, but with modern and sophisticated features to give it a contemporary and timeless face. Silling’s ultimate goal was to help the Breidenbacher Hof reclaim its fame and popularity it held in former times and present the new and refreshed star amongst Germany’s luxury hospitality scene.
Peter Silling commented:” we wanted to return “the living room” of Düsseldorf to the people of this city and the international travellers, preserving elements of great tradition, while updating the look and feel”.
A total of 95 tastefully furnished rooms and suites provide a comfortable environment for the well-travelled guest. The materials and the furniture are of highest quality. When entering the room, guests can create their own atmosphere, temperature and lighting preference by simply handling the backlit LED touch panels that are conveniently located at the entrance and next to the bedside. A beautiful dark wooden panelled corridor leads past the bathrooms to the main room, where a thick carpet absorbs any noise. Luxurious light beige, caramel, nougat, grey and gold tones dominate the Interior colour scheme. Silling wanted to reflect the elegant approach and sophistication of the Düsseldorf residents, who are best known for being very stylish in an understated way, never overdone, always presentable.
All of the furniture for this project has been designed and custom-made by Silling. Dark brown walnut wood is used as a frame for the comfortable oversized bed, as well as for the chic furniture; creating an important and distinct contrast to the lighter natural tones of the rich silk and heavy cotton upholstery fabrics used throughout the rooms. Stylish leather accessories and artwork sourced and selected by Anja Silling complement this heavenly atmosphere.
The bathrooms are spacious and made out of the finest materials. Limestone floors with mosaic intarsia, Jacuzzi bathtubs, rain showers, and Swarovski crystal lighting features create a magic ambience, a state-of-the art mirror flat screen TV allows guests to check the stock market or to watch their favourite morning show whilst brushing their teeth.
Silling’s personal highlight is the cigar lounge adjacent to the bar. Silling, who himself loves to smoke a good cigar, made sure this lounge is perfect for the true connoisseur. Real leather flooring, that according to Silling gets even more beautiful as it ages (just like the good cigars), a walk-in humidor showcasing the worlds finest cigar brands, and a unique display of the history of the Cuban cigar make this lounge special. A cigar expert from Cuba will hand-roll special blends for the true aficionados.
The lobby, flanked by an impressive marble “Silling signature” staircase, reflects both the grandeur of a luxury hotel, combined with the intimacy of a boutique hotel.  Right from the very beginning, the guests know that they are getting the best.
